3 Reasons Why You Must Visit Beautiful Lake Como

Ever since the early 2000s, when I used to travel to Milan frequently, I’ve harboured a deep desire to visit Lake Como. Despite exploring various other regions in Italy over the years, it remained a distant dream until recently. Perhaps it’s the overwhelming number of captivating countries, cities, towns, and villages spread across the globe that has kept me from experiencing its splendour. However, last month, I was finally able to fulfil my longing for Lake Como, all thanks to a kind invitation from a dear friend to attend her daughter’s wedding. This is my photo album of our 4 night stay in Lake Como.

Opting to stay in a luxurious apartment situated in the bustling Piazza Cavour proved to be the best decision we made. The view from our accommodation was truly breathtaking! Piazza Cavour serves as the vibrant heart of Como city, with it’s opening leading directly to the lake and effectively splitting the promenade into two distinct sections: the east and the west.

Our one-bedroom luxury apartment was an absolute delight. Immaculate, cozy, and adorned with tastefully modern decor, it provided us with the utmost comfort. The fridge was generously stocked with an array of beverages, including wine, juices, and other refreshing drinks. Every essential item for a short trip was thoughtfully provided, down to the toothbrushes.

Without a doubt, I wholeheartedly give this apartment a perfect 5-star rating!

3 reasons why you MUST visit Lake Como at least once in your lifetime.

1

Beholding the magnificent creation of an intelligent designer, the mastermind behind the Earth, universe, and heavens, is truly a wonderful experience. Lake Como, with it’s enchanting allure, stands as a testament to this remarkable craftsmanship. It’s beauty, with picturesque landscapes has an elegant charm that beckons visitors from far and wide.

As I gaze upon the houses nestled amidst the verdant trees on the hills and mountains, I’m filled with awe at the sheer splendour of it all. The sight is nothing short of awe-inspiring, evoking a sense of wonder and reverence. Venturing through the city’s narrow streets, adorned with architectural marvels that bear the imprints of time, I find myself transported back in history, imagining the lives that were once lived within these ancient walls. The preservation of the city’s rich heritage is a true delight for history enthusiasts like myself, a tangible link to the past that continues to captivate.

A leisurely stroll along the promenade is a true delight, offering captivating vistas of the shimmering lake and granting access to the splendid villas and other noteworthy attractions. The harmonious blend of natural beauty and man-made wonders creates an enchanting tapestry that’s impossible to resist. Como city is a haven for those who appreciate the allure of historical cities, offering an experience that is both culturally enriching and visually gratifying.

I could sense a palpable romantic ambiance in the air! Lake Como truly exudes an enchanting atmosphere. There was a time when I believed Venice to be the epitome of romantic destinations, but upon visiting, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. The overcrowding and excessive commercialization took away from the romantic charm I had anticipated. This experience occurred during the summer of 2018, and Venice failed to capture the essence of romance in it’s air.

Lake Como presented a stark contrast. Some might argue that my perception of Como city as romantic was influenced by attending a wedding there. However, as I sat by the promenade in the evening, observing couples leisurely strolling hand in hand, it became evident that this romantic atmosphere was not a figment of my imagination.

Como is an ideal choice for fashion enthusiasts seeking a stylish getaway. It exudes an ambiance that welcomes the expression of your love for fashion. Like long flowing floral dresses for a delightful dinner experience. If your inclination is towards always maintaining an elegant appearance, Como presents itself as the perfect location for you. However, even if dressing up isn’t your thing, a visit to Como is still highly recommended to indulge in the numerous offerings of Lake Como. The most important thing is, don’t look scruffy and dress to feel comfortable considering the weather conditions. As evidenced by my photos, I personally prefer a different fashion approach and don’t usually opt for long, floaty dresses.

This is one thing you MUST do in Lake Como.

You have to visit Brunate to get the best view of the lake.
Brunate, located up the hill in Como, is a charming small village with a rich historical background. From the 18th to the 20th centuries, it was the preferred residence of affluent and wealthy Milanese families. This historical significance is evident as you meander along the narrow cobbled streets of Brunate.

Once you arrive in Brunate, you’ll be greeted by breathtaking panoramic views of the entire western Alps. The village is home to around 1300 residents, some of whom rent out their properties and apartments to tourists during the summer season. As you ascend the hill on the cable car, you’ll be treated to magnificent vistas of the city below.

To fully experience all that Brunate has to offer, I recommend you set aside a good 3-4 hours for exploration. Begin your journey by catching the cable car ride to Brunate at the funicular station in Como. The tickets for this enjoyable mode of transportation are inexpensive, and the trains operate frequently.

In Brunate, you can immerse yourself in the village’s history, admire the architecture, walk to the lighthouse, and embrace the serene atmosphere. Take leisurely walks through the streets, appreciating the unique charm and character of the place. Marvel at the stunning views of the majestic Alps that stretch before you, providing an awe-inspiring backdrop to the village.

Should we have gone for a boat ride on Lake Como? We ultimately chose to head up to Brunate instead, as I preferred to explore the lake in a more comprehensive manner. In my opinion, a proper lake tour entails making stops at a minimum of four towns along the route. Unfortunately, we didn’t have an entire day to dedicate to this endeavour. However, a Como lake boat tour is a must if you have time to do one. I’ve made a mental note to reserve a lake tour for our next visit, which may be as soon as next year.

Villa Pizzo

When we mentioned to the guy at the tourist information office in Como city that we were in Lake Como for a wedding, he asked us where. We said, β€œVilla Pizzo”. He replied, β€œVilla Pizzo? You MUST come back here after the wedding to tell me about it”.

Villa Pizzo is a magnificent historic mansion located in the town of Cernobbio, on the western shores of Lake Como in Italy. It is known for it’s stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and idyllic setting overlooking the lake.

The villa dates back to the 16th century and has been owned by various noble families throughout it’s history. It’s architectural style is a mix of Renaissance and Baroque influences, with grand facades, elegant arches, and intricate detailing.

The gardens surrounding Villa Pizzo are a highlight of the property. They’re meticulously landscaped, featuring terraced areas, manicured lawns, and a variety of colourful flowers and plants. From the gardens, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Como, with it’s shimmering waters and the picturesque mountains in the background.

As you can imagine from my description of Villa Pizzo, the wedding was a beautiful, magical, enchanting, spectacular and joyous event. The beautiful bride, handsome groom and their parties, were stunning. I felt blessed to witness such a precious moment.
