50 Is The New 30 – Fashion & Style, What 50yrs Old In 2020 Looks Like.

Did you see JLo at the 2020 Super Bowl?

In my parents generation 50yrs old (1980’s) looked old in my eyes. Men and women turning 50 behaved old and kind of past it. In my mother’s generation, at 50yrs old, women had let go and looked like motherly mothers.

How 50+ fashion has changed!50yrs old in 2020 is chic, sexy, determined, vitalicious and fun! Today’s 50yr old is full of hope and promise. It’s as if life is just beginning for many of us. Our children are all grown up, we feel a sense of liberation, freedom, no desire to conform. We are are vibrant, full of energy and vitality. We feel like we’re in our 30’s. Menopause hasn’t stopped us from feeling younger because we understand that it’s just for a season and we can shine through it (intentionally with sustained effort).

“We are not limited by by our old age, we are liberated by it” Stu Mittleman, Fitness educator and ultra distance running champion

“We are as old as we allow ourselves to become.”

Fashion has progressed since our parents generation. We have style, panache, sass. We have sway, we are sexier than we were in our biological 30’s. We are into fashion, make up and all manner of extensions (hair, nails, eyelashes).

Attitudes have evolved and we do not conform to stereotype. 50yrs is what we want it to be. We are not letting society dictate to us what 50yrs should look or feel like. We are the new wave of 50yr olds to whom it seems like we’re in our 30’s and we are freaking loving it!

Someone ( less than a year younger) said to me recently, “Kehinde, you don’t realise you’re now 50, you’re old o!” and I replied, “I’m not old, but it sounds like you feel you are”.

Whilst some are busy putting labels on us and our antics, we’re busy living.

If you look at yourself in the mirror and you don’t like what you see, you can change it. As long as you’re alive, it’s never too late to update your look.

  • Amen Sister. Now in my fifties, I’m comfortable in my own skin and know exactly what I want out of life. I love this article, as it sounds like my own voice. Job well done Kehinde.

I can work towards it but my typical breakfast is tea and bread o😢

    • Yes you can!
Btw, one meal won’t do damage if you’re mindful of portions. It’s your overall daily calories that counts.
